Introduction

This application is about finding the Maidenhead grid for a particular location on earth. There are several different ways to locate a particular point on the surface of the earth. The location of a point on the surface of the earth can be specified by latitude and longitude, either as decimal numbers, or, as degrees, minutes and seconds.

The military uses a grid system using pairs of letters and numbers to specify locations. This is used in map reading and in specifying artillery targets. Amateur radio operators use a letter pair/number pair system similar to the military grid system. Such a grid system is thought to be easier to use and "less mathematical" than latitudes and longitudes.

Maidenhead grids are particularly useful for VHF/UHF contests in locating your station.
